Let’s face it — starting a business isn’t the *right* fit for everyone, and that’s ok! That being said, entrepreneurial skills & characteristics can still be super relevant to any career path you choose to pursue.

Best part! There are tons of opportunities at the University of Ottawa to develop & nurture your entrepreneurial spirit without launching your own startup. Here’s how:

5 Ways to Develop an Entrepreneurial Mindset at uOttawa without Starting a Business

1.Earn Your Entrepreneurial Mindset Certificate

The Entrepreneurial Mindset Certificate (EMC) offers three streams to help you develop a more entrepreneurial way of thinking! The featured streams are: Skills, Tools and Networking.

Once you’ve registered, completing the requirements for the certificate is pretty simple. You must attend five activities in each stream— although most skill & tool workshops are offered on campus, we also provide students with ample opportunity to venture out into the community as well!

You can register for the Entrepreneurial Mindset Certificate here.

BONUS! You’ll receive a physical & digital Certificate badge to boost your LinkedIn Profile or your portfolio, upon completion.

2. Complete a Placement or Internship With a Startup

If you’re hoping to get a first-hand look at life in a startup while contributing to a mission that strives to make a difference, you may want to find a placement within an existing startup company! No need to launch your own startup when you can work in one.

Give us a shout at: eHub@uOttawa.ca to see if this would be a good fit for you and how to get started!

3. Attend Entrepreneurial Activities & Events

There are many entrepreneurship-related activities being hosted on campus throughout the year! From uOGlobal Entrepreneurship Week to events like the ELLE Gala & the Legacy Conference. They feature top-notch speakers looking to share insightful & relevant experiences related to the challenges and successes of being a leader, disruptor or change maker. Either way, you’ll likely find something that sparks your interest.

For a up-to-date look at upcoming events & activities, follow the Entrepreneurship Hub on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

4. Integrate Entrepreneurship in Your Studies

For those with a curious mind and an entrepreneurial spirit you may want to look into integrating the Entrepreneurship, Creativity and Social Innovation Option or the Science Entrepreneurship Option to your program of studies.

Not sure if you’re ready to combine an Option to your program of studies? We understand! There are a number of open elective courses for you to choose from and get your feet wet, such as:

· ADM 2313: The Entrepreneurial Society

· ADM 3313: New Venture Creation

· AHL 2300: Introduction to Community Engagement

· AHL 3300: Creativity and Innovation

5. Get Involved with the Entrepreneurship Hub

Yep — you heard it here first! Developing and maintaining an entrepreneurial culture across campus requires a troop of students, staff, alumni and community partners dedicated upholding our mission.

If you’re looking to add hands-on experience to your resumé or perhaps levelling up your portfolio, the Entrepreneurship Hub is always looking for volunteers. If photography, videography, content creation, social media or event planning is your schtick, send us an email: ehub@uOttawa.ca

The Entrepreneurial Mindset Certificate is offered by the University of Ottawa’s Entrepreneurship Hub. Registrations are currently being accepted on a on-going basis. For more information and to register, visit our website.
