A common misconception many people have about entrepreneurship is that it is only meant for business students. Entrepreneurship is not meant for one field of study or for certain groups of people. It can be done by everyone and anyone can be an entrepreneur.

Entrepreneurship is not just about creating an idea, it’s also about learning common skills all entrepreneurs should have such as knowing the basics of how to run a business, how to show people your idea is valuable, and what tools you should use in your entrepreneurship journey.

Build Your Own Career Bootcamp

This month, the Entrepreneurship Hub at the University of Ottawa is hosting the Build Your Own Career Bootcamp (BYOC) from October 18 to November 15.

The event is open to everyone and it’s not just for business students because at the eHub, we believe anyone and everyone can be entrepreneurial! Carter Barrett, one of the Program Coordinators responsible for running this series had this to say:

“Starting a business doesn’t have to be scary and intimidating! The Build Your Own Career bootcamp will teach participants the fundamentals of getting started. This bootcamp has been developed with “solopreneurs” in mind! We want to help you learn the basics of running your own business, how to deliver value to your customers and share inexpensive and practical tools to get your business online.”

Global Entrepreneurship Week

The Entrepreneurship Hub also promotes Global Entrepreneurship Week which encourages students, alumni, staff, and clubs to create initiatives or events that are related to entrepreneurship. The events are meant to promote entrepreneurship, celebrate those who are entrepreneurs, and teach others skills of entrepreneurship and innovation.

Global Entrepreneurship Week is not just at uOttawa, it also occurs on a local and national level! This year, it will be held from November 8–14 and you browse the full-line up!

Entrepreneurial Mindset Certificate

In addition, those who are interested In learning entrepreneurial skills and tools may be interested in registering for the Entrepreneurial Mindset Certificate!

To earn the certificate, you must attend five qualifying activities in the three streams of skills, tools, and networking. You can learn more about the activities and requirements of the Entrepreneurial Mindset Certificate by clicking here.

The Entrepreneurship Hub is focused on including everyone that is interested in learning about entrepreneurship and enhancing their skills. With the Build Your Own Career Bootcamp, Global Entrepreneurship Week, and the Entrepreneurial Mindset certificate, it’s difficult to choose which one (which is why you should do all of them!) but no matter what you choose, you can still be a great entrepreneur even if you’re not a business student!
