One day, I want to be my own boss — we’ve all heard it, you’ve probably thought it, but how many of us actually do it? For many, running your own business is a dream, but it can be hard to know what type of business to start, and even harder to actually start it.
Fret not! If you’ve got a talent or specific expertise, then you’ve got something to sell, and if you sell it, then you’ve got a business! Here are a couple examples of talents and expertise that can be turned into a profitable venture;
Take a hobby and make a job
No matter your creative outlet, there could be people out there that want what you’re making — with today’s available resources, it’s simple to get started selling your crafts, art, and other items online. Anyone from a curator of antiques to a hand-made pottery or clothing expert can set up shop online and begin selling products.
Using your knowledge to make a profit
Additionally, your professional and academic expertise can be immensely valuable to people and other businesses who could use it. Setting up a consulting operation starts with identifying knowledge and expertise you have that makes you valuable to a customer. Maybe you’d like to set up your own legal or medical practice, or even consult with companies on creative marketing or project management. If you’ve got expertise that you’re passionate about, it could the beginnings of a successful self-run business.

If the idea of submitting your application seems overwhelming, don’t worry — the selection process is quite flexible. Its main purpose is to ensure the content being delivered during the bootcamp aligns with the needs of the cohort.
